According to CNN a man named Richard Shoop fired shots at a shopping mall in New Jersey late Monday night. "We know that his intent was either suicide or to do something that would cause police to shoot him, which we call 'suicide by cop,' " Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli told CNN's "New Day." The man acted alone and no one was injured. CNN reported that the man did not aim at people but at objects to avoid killing any bystanders. He just wanted to kill himself and when the police did not kill him he decided to end his own life. ABC news said that he did not plan of coming out of the mall alive. Governor Chris Christie says that this is another reason why law makers should look into more gun laws.

editorial Toronto Mayor admits to using crack

Toronto is the home of Drake, The Blue Jays and The Maple Leaves but is now the home of The Crack Head Mayor. Toronto Mayor, Rob Ford explained how he probably did crack cocaine in a drunken stupor about one year ago. Are you serious mayor? He then tried to cover up his wrongdoings by explaining how he was voted to do the duties as mayor and he has done them, and done them well according to his standards. I think that mayor Ford has forgotten about the importance of a public image of the mayor and how he is the face of a city. He represents something more than a law being passed or a city clean up project. The modern world is most certainly making a fool out of mayor Ford with his nonchalant response to his drug use and his lack of an appropriate reason on why he was caught using the drugs. If one of the candidates for mayor of Boston was caught doing crack cocaine would that effect the result of the race? Of Course it would! so why doesn't it matter in Toronto now. Rob Ford should no longer be in office.

Ingognito Suspension compare and contrast

On Sunday night the Miami dolphins suspended Richie Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team and to the player which was most greatly affected by his inappropriate conduct, Richie Martin. incognito sent Martin racial and inappropriate messages on multiple occasions. He then made him pay 15,000 for a trip to Las Vegas that he did not even want to participate in. This conduct by Incognito led to Martin leaving the team and Incognito getting himself suspended indefinitely. I watched two different news channels discussing Ingognito's actions, ESPN and ABC news at 7.

 The differences between these two channels was that ESPN took this story from the team and sports point of view and ABC approached it on a moral and discrimination point of view. They went on to explain how a person of Incognito's character should not be on a team because of his character. They also explained how there are many other players like him are in the NFL and some teams even have a list of players not to draft or purchase due to off-field issues. The panel then discussed how a player with a bad attitude and critical of other players in a negative way is not good for the teams quality of play. On the other hand ABC discussed how it is embarrassing for Incognito and his family and questioned how someone could be so rude and racist in this day and age.

College is Worth the Money summary 10/4/13

Recenty in the news the question of whether or not college is worth the price has been debated back and forth. The college experience is something that all adolescents want to go through but in today's society not all have the money to pay for it. Unfortunately the news does not help the cause of sending kids to coege because they are always complaining about the price of school and how no one can afford it. But in reality those schools in which they are talking about dont actually charge the price wich is listed on heir website. Huffington Post writes, "Even though a certain amount may be listed as the cost to attend a specific college, further examination often reveals that everyone on campus does not pay that higher amount."

America: a land of liberals governed by conservatives? editorial 10/4/13

In Oliver Burkemans blog he explains his true befuddlemt of how the far right wing faction of the government can seemingly convince a whole party on how to vote and how it all revolves around one thing, money. Today in society money is everything, it is the same in politics, money equals power. The Republican party seems to have wealthier members and their beliefs adhere to those who have made money by themselves and in the private sector. So when a republican politician speaks and they have money their party will listen and probably agree becaue they know that that person is some kind of succesful in their eyes.

I agree with Burkeman's evaluation of the Republican Party. Now that the Government Shutdown has begun the Conservative's true colors have been shown. Mitt Romney lost the presidential election and his main goal of that campaign was to get rid of Obamacare. Sorry Republicans but the population of America voted for Obama and with that comes his beliefs on health care too. Your money and power will not let you get what you want as you seemingly think it will. The conservative party must unerstand that the entire country is not millionares and some people were not as privaleged as them growing up. The Affordable care act helps those people.  The millionares of the Republican party  are trying to speak for the poor, i on understand why some of them listen.

Boston Herald vs patriot ledger compare and contrast 10/4/13

On Friday, the Abington high school green wave took on the Cohasset sailors and came out victorious but how the game was reported and how the team was portrayed was differant between the two papers.

To start off, both of the papers gave the box score, which is esssentially the touchdowns, tackles, and big plays but what each article used to make their article something other than just facts varied greatly. The Boston Herald wrote an article talking about how the team has recovered from various injuries and are still playing at a high level of football. This is because a larger paper needs to write about something more than just statistics of the game to draw a readers attention when they are talking about a division 5 school. On the other hand the patriot ledger talked about the game in a similar way but ended the story with a quote, a seemingly double sided compliment from the cohasset coach. he said, "we scouted Abington's first three games and they did not play like this, tonight they came with a pupose". Was the cohasset coach at the right games? Did he know the greenwave nearly beat duxbury. This is the same man that after the cohasset baseball team lost to the wave by 10 runs he blabbered some excuse to the newpapers too.

The ledger put that quote in the newspaper because it is local news and some people may have the same feelngs about that quote as me but some may also agree with the coach. If someone who picks up the herald saw that quote they wouldn't think twice about it. Bigger newspapers cover more important and more entriguing stories while local newspaper focus on the small things.

9/19/13 NY times vs. Boston Herald

Both the New York Times ad the Boston Herald are renowned newspapers. Each of these newspapers tend to lean a certain way when presenting the news, The new york times is known as a liberal paper and the Boston herald is considered republican. I read both newspapers on the topic of gun control and analyzed the similarities and differences. Both the new york times and the Herald would present the facts in an unbiased way. For example both sites explained how the senate voted against gun control. The differences between the two sites came in the information which they presented after. For instance, the herald quoted an Iowa republican senator saying, "Expanded background checks would not have prevented Newtown. Criminals do not submit to background checks." This was the basis of heir argument for the rest of the article explaining how background checks would not stop mass shootings from happening which is an opinion of may conservatives in America. In the New York Times the article identifies the Democratic Senators who voted against the background checks and went against the democratic parties beliefs. They then interviewed them asking their thought process of why they wouldn't pass the restrictions in an accusational manor, trying to defend the liberal views.

9/19/13 Navy Yard Shooting Blog Post, Summary of multiplenews articles on an issue

The Huffington News reports that on Monday, September 16th a lone shooter had been killed after a mass shooting at the Washington D.C. Navy yard. They also say that 13 people were killed including the shooter in this deadly ordeal. Multiple sources have identified Aaron Alexis, 34, as the shooter. NBC reports that he was originally from Fort Worth Texas but had recetly naken a job at the Navy Yard as a civilian contractor. Earlier in this investigation the police believed that another man in a tan military uniform as also responsible for this attack but DC Police announced via twitter that there are no other suspects or people of interest.

1st post-  Brian Holloway's home destroyed

                  Brian Holloway is a former New England Patriot Lineman. Holloway was away in Florida but his vacant home in Stephentown, NY was trashed and vandalized by a group of 300 teens over this labor day weekend. His home sustained over $20,000 worth of damage and no one to put the blame on. So what Holloway did was genius. He created his own website called, helpmesave300.com. Holloway's purpose of the website was not to get teens in trouble or to turn them into the police but to help them save themselves from lives of drugs and alcohol. This website included pictures of his damaged property, his biography, an explanation of what Stephentown meant to him, and pictures of teens on twitter which he could identify the background as his house. In Holloway's biography he talked about how some of his friends and teammates from the NFL had faced alcohol and drug problems and died because of them. He put the pictures up from twitter to show the teens that they are not "cool" because they get drunk and post about it via social media but how naive they are to think that alcohol cannot ruin their life. I agree with the purpose of Holloway's website 100%. His property was destroyed while he was away. The place that he called home was vandalized by teens which he had never met. Holloway gave them a taste of reality when he explained how he had buried several of his friends due to alcohol abuse and I do not think most of those 300 kids will be going to any parties anytime soon
